Plant fires Bridgend to last four
Sunday 01 March 2009
Raith PlantFORMER Cwmbran Town striker Raith Plant returned to Gwent to end YMCA's bid for a second successive Welsh Cup semi final appearance. Substitute Plant drilled a low 62nd-minute shot past another ex-Crow, YMCA skipper and goalkeeper Gareth Wesson, to earn Bridgend a deserved last-four spot. Wesson was only forced to make two other saves during the game while opposite number Brendan Cropley was not called up at all by the shot-shy home attack. In a tight encounter, play was mainly confined to the midfield where the visitors generally held the upper hand. It was the first time in 10 home WC ties that YMCA have lost at their Mendalgief Road HQ with Bridgend following up last week's 3-0 home MacWhirter Welsh League Division One win over the same opponents.
