 LES Davies scored one and made one as Bangor City retained the Welsh Cup, beating Aberystwyth 2-0 in the final at Llanelli's Parc Y Scarlets. City boss Nev Powell had been close to substituting his star striker, who picked up a knee injury in the first minute, but his patience paid dividends just before half-time as Marc Limbert's inswinging free-kick from the left floated over Seasiders' keeper Dave Roberts and Davies headed the ball back into the far corner. And, five minutes after the break, Davies robbed Sion James on the edge of the 18-yard box and found man-of-the-match Chris Seargeant, who had acres of space to beat Roberts with his shot. City had the ball in the net on 22 minutes when Seargeant got the final touch after Peter Hoy had won an aerial challenge with keeper Roberts from another set-piece, but referee Huw Jones mysteriously disallowed the effort. And Aberystwyth came close to opening their account when the Citizens' defence was caught flat-footed and a layoff from Graham Evans was hammered against an upright by Robert Evans. But once City had established their two-goal cushion they were rarely threatened by a disappointing Aber, although sub striker Tom Bradshaw should have done better when sending his 70th-minute effort straight at Blues' keeper Paul Smith. And it took a good save from Roberts to deny the impressive Seargeant a second goal seven minutes from time, as City manager Powell remained unbeaten in the Welsh Cup since taking the reins at Farrar Road two years ago. The decision to play the final on a Bank Holiday Monday in Llanelli saw the attendance plummet by a third from the 1500-plus who watched last year's final at Newtown.
