Oswell's extra-time winner sinks the Robins
Monday 05 December 2011
Newtown v RhylHUWS Gray Alliance leaders Rhyl were deserved winners at lowly Newtown in a result that could hardly be seen as a shock.
After creating a string of early chances, the Lilywhites took the lead just before the break when Matty Woodward fed Mike Pritchard, who fired past keeper Nick Thomas.
The goal looked enough to take the visitors through to the fourth round until two minutes from time, when Matty Cook pounced on a rebound after keeper Ben Jones had punched clear a free-kick and volley home the equaliser.
Rhyl had the better chances in extra-time but the tie was headed for penalties until, in the third minute of time added on, James Gambino's shot was blocked by Robins' keeper Thomas and Jason Oswell joyfully swept home the rebound.
