BALA claimed a place in the last eight, but they were made to fight all the way by their Alliance opponents who fought back from a two-goal deficit to force extra-time. Despite fielding a somewhat threadbare squad, the Lakesiders overcome a difficult opening to take the lead on the quarter hour when Lee Hunt despatched a penalty and looked to be in control when Chris Mason ran onto a Lee Hunt flicked header and fired low into the net from a tight angle. But the Bucks hit back five minutes before half-time when a clearance from keeper Matt Boswell was charged down by Anthony Williams who was able to walk the ball into the net. The hosts now had their tails up and levelled on 68 minutes, Mark Connolly fouling in the box for Mike Burke to fire home from the spot. Both sides had plenty of chances but some glaring misses and outstanding saves took the tie into extra-time. But Hunt soon put the visitors in front with a deft glancing header and then completed a hat-trick from a Steff Edwards cross to seal the passage to the quarter-finals. |
