Druids are deserved winners at Prestatyn
Monday 30 January 2012
CEFN Druids produced the only upset of the third round and they were full value for their victory over lack-lustre Prestatyn at Bastion Gardens.
The visitors signalled their intentions as early as the first minute when a Max Peate headed against an upright from Adam Hesp's long throw into the box.
And Hesp's 12th-minute goal was just reward as the Ancients continued to dominate, with Joe Price also forcing keeper Jon Hill-Dunt to tip a fierce drive over the bar.
A shot from Warren Duckett was blocked with Robbie James blasting the rebound over the bar, while the Seasiders were restricted to few chances, their best effort when Steve Rogers rounded keeper Chris Mullock, but the defence cleared the danger.
It was a similar story in the second half with the hosts unable to get a foothold in the game, with both James and Tony Cann going close to extending Druids' lead with headers.
The quarter-final place was finally secured in stoppage time when Duckett released Price who finished well and set-up a meeting with Aberystwyth for Huw Griffiths' side.
