Wingmakers claim a last eight spot
Monday 30 January 2012
AIRBUS have enjoyed little Welsh Cup success in recent years but claimed a place in the last eight in a penalty shoot-out at the Martsons Stadium.
Afan Lido took an early lead after 12 minutes when referee Kevin Morgan awarded a spot kick and Andy Hill made no mistake.
Veteran Tony Pennock, making his debut, was the busier of the two goalkeepers as the visitors responded and then levelled on 25 minutes when Mark Cadwallader headed home a well-taken corner.
Only a goal-line clearance by Kristian James prevented the Wingmakers from adding another, but they took the lead just before half-time when Pennock could only palm a Gavin Cadwallader shot into the net.
Defender Carl Evans was pushed upfront as the home side searched for the equaliser which eventually arrived in stoppage time thanks to sub Liam Thomas.
With no goals in extra-time, both sides scored four from their first five penalties before keeper Pennock saw his effort saved and the visitors despatched the winner.
