| Chirpy Canaries make bright start |
| Sunday 16 August 2009 |
RELEGATED Caernarfon Town made a bright start to life in the Cymru Alliance with a 3-1 home win over Denbigh Town at The Oval.Ashley Ruane was the Canaries' hero with a brace, Tom walker hitting the third after the visitors had taken the lead through Darren Cassidy after 13 minutes. Another ex-Welsh Premier outfit started with a win, as Llangefni Town overcame Flint Town United 4-2 with two apiece for Darren Thomas (pictured) and Kevin Lloyd, back at Talwrn Road from a loan spell with Bangor City. The surprise of the day came at the New Oval where one of the title favourites, Holyhead Hotspur, went down 2-1 to Mold Alexandra, who went two in front through Darren Pritchard and Simon Holloway before James Burgess closed the gap. The headline match of the day ended all-square at Globe Way, with expected title contenders Buckley Town and Llandudno drawing 1-1. The hosts needed a late Julian Jones goal to level after Gareth Evans had headed 'Tudno into the lead. |
