Bucks beat the freeze and Caernarfon
Monday 21 December 2009
Colin QuirkIN the only game to beat the freeze in the main north and south feeder leagues, Buckley Town won 1-0 at Caernarfon's Oval.
The Bucks remain fourth after a fifth successive away league win courtesy of Colin Quirk's 64th-minute goal.
A long clearance caught the Canaries' defence in difficulty and Quirk (pictured) volleyed home a superb effort from 20 yards.
The home side’s best effort came in the second half when Mike Latham found Mark Roberts, whose strike rattled the crossbar.
"There were a few ex-Buckley players in the Caernarfon side and they were really fired up, but we weathered the storm and apart from them hitting the bar in the second half our defence didn’t have a lot to deal with," said Bucks' boss Gareth Thomas.
Home boss Simon Sedgwick says he will bring in a number of new players in the new year in a bid to turn their fortunes round.
Currently fifth from bottom, the Canaries face the prospect of dropping from the Welsh Premier into the third tier of domestic football in two seasons.
