10-man Bucks lift the NEWFA Cup
Tuesday 04 May 2010
Buckley celebrateBUCKLEY Town won the NEWFA Challenge Cup, beating Airbus UK Broughton 3-0 at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.
Quicker to settle against their reserve-strength Welsh Premier opponents, the Bucks should have opened their account on the quarter-hour when a Gareth Edwards header was palmed away by keeper Ashley Crossthwaite resulting in a trip on Neil Wynne.
Colin Quirk stepped up to take the penalty but his effort was tipped onto the post.
But, on 33 minutes, Neil Wynne sprang the Wingmakers' offside trap to put Buckley in front with a spectacular drive which flew over Crossthwaite and crashed in off the bar.
Buckley suffered a blow on the hour when keeper Jamie Hulse was red-carded for handling the ball outside the penalty area forcing striker Wynne to don the gloves.
But Wynne's talents between the posts were barely tested and 10-man Town soon doubled their lead when Quirk provided the opening for Stuart Hayes to cut inside the area and fire home the second.
The celebrations had barely died down when Joey Desormeaux won the ball back in midfield to play through Liam Caddick who coolly slid the ball underneath the advancing keeper to make it 3-0.
