Druids' boss brings in Welshpool trio
Sunday 30 May 2010
George HughesNEWLY-appointed Elements Cefn Druids' boss Huw Griffiths has raided his former club Welshpool for striker Marc Griffiths, defender George Hughes and goalkeeper Dave Maguire.
Griffiths returns for a second spell at Plas Kynaston Lane after scoring twice from six (+4) appearances in season 2005/6. He left to play a part in Bala Town's promotion to the Welsh Premier in 2009 after joining the club from Ellesmere Rangers and returned to Welshpool in the January transfer window.
Hughes is an experienced centre-back and former Shrewsbury Town youth who was released from the Gay Meadow in summer 2006 and joined Welshpool, where he has clocked up exactly 100 starts in the top flight. He is likely to be handed the captain's armband for next season.
Maguire started last season with Newtown, where he was virtually ever-present before leaving in January following the arrival of loanee Dave Roberts from Aberystwyth and made a further 15 starts at Maesydre. The Shrewsbury-born 19-year-old is a Republic of Ireland Under-17 international.
Griffiths has also been boosted by the news that promising academy product Josh Griffiths is one of several existing players who have agreed terms for the new campaign.
