RHYL have been buoyed by the news that Gareth Owen has signed a one-year contract to remain at Belle Vue.Owen made a surprise moved from Airbus UK Broughton, where he was player-manager, to the Lilywhites two years ago and was voted Welsh Premier player of the season as the club won the title in 2008/9. Connah's Quay born and bred, Owen joined Wrexham as a trainee, signing professional in July 1990. Released at the end of the 2000/1 season he joined Doncaster Rovers and won eight Under-21 and one 'B' international caps for Wales before returning to his home town club Connah's Quay Nomads in the summer of 2003 after helping Rovers back into the Football League. He has scored 33 goals from his 209 (+6) Welsh Premier appearances. Photo: Owen was the league's player of the season in 2008/9. |
