Gary PowellCHESTER manager Neil Young has recruited another of his former colleagues from his time as assistant manager at Belle Vue.
Rhyl's first team coach Gary Powell (pictured) moves in to the Deva Stadium as Young's assistant, while ex-Lillies' midfielder Carl Ruffer has been signed from Droylsden.
A former player with Everton and Wigan, 41-year-old Powell has worn the colours of no fewer than 13 clubs, six of them in the Football League. He won a league championship medal with TNS and also at Rhyl in 2003/4 and has played also for Bangor City, Conwy United and Flint Town United in the Welsh Premier.
Powell scored 70 goals from 215 (+133) appearances in his domestic league career.
"Gary is a great lad who I have worked with before and will be a great acquisition to our management team, and ultimately our club," says Young.
Ruffer returns to his hometown club having played more than 100 times for the Blues between 2000 and 2004 and was part of the squad that won the Conference and promotion back to the Football League.
The experienced 35-year-old defender played for Droylsden in the Blue Square North last season and has also appeared for Morecambe, Runcorn and Bradford Park Avenue.
He made 23 appearances for Rhyl in season 2007/8.
