TIMMY Edwards is to complete Greg Strong's coaching team at Rhyl after Gary Powell left to join Chester. The 39-year-old quit the game last season after making just six appearances, two from the bench, for Welshpool, where he was assistant manager for a brief spell. A vastly experienced central defender who returned to Rhyl in the summer of 2002 from TNS, where he had won a Welsh Premier championship medal and played in Europe, Edwards captained Rhyl to the Welsh Premier title, Welsh Cup and Loosemores Challenge Cup in 2003/4 and was voted Welsh Premier player of the season. Released by Rhyl in November 2006, he was quickly snapped-up by NEWI Cefn Druids, leaving in the summer of 2008 to join Welshpool. Edwards enjoyed a testimonial at Park Hall in May to celebrate his 454 appearances in the Welsh Premier since 1994. Photo: Timmy Edwards walks out for his testimonial last month. |
