Rhyl sign prolific non-league scorer
Thursday 29 July 2010
Stuart RuddRHYL FC have added one of non-league football’s most prolific goalscorers Stuart Rudd to their ranks, writes Dave Jones in the Daily Post.
Rudd featured in the Lilywhites’ 4-3 friendly defeat at Prestatyn Town on Tuesday night.
The 33-year-old (pictured) began his career at Wigan Athletic, but his record of 30 goals in 20 games for former North West Counties League outfit Westhoughton Town caught the attention of Skelmersdale United.
At Skem he scored 230 times in just 313 games before notching 22 in 20 starts for Burscough in 2000/01 and then grabbing 48 goals over two seasons with FC United.
Rudd has also had stints at Bradford Park Avenue and Salford City before he helped Guiseley to promotion to the Blue Square North last season.
Meanwhile, striker Rob Turner has now left Rhyl after scoring four goals from seven (+1) Welsh Premier appearances last season.
Turner, 20, started his career with Burnley before signing for Preston North End where he featured regularly in the Deepdale reserves prior to a move to Sligo Rovers in the Irish Premier Division.
But he failed to settle in Ireland and joined Rhyl in January 2010.
