GAP Connah's Quay made the perfect start to life in the Huw Grays Alliance with a 6-0 hammering of another of last season's relegated Welsh Premier clubs. The Nomads beat Welshpool 6-0 at the Deeside Stadium with Gary O'Toole and Mike Hayes both scoring twice. Rhyl did not have matters all their own way at home to Caersws and needed a 43rd-minute Chris Williams goal to take the spoils in a 1-0 win. Stuart Rudd missed several chances for the Lilywhites, Scott Beckett struck the bar and a goal in stoppage time from John Toner was disallowed. Two more of last season's top flight clubs, Porthmadog and Cefn Druids, shared a goal-less draw at The Traeth. There was a shock for reigning champions Llangefni Town who slumped 0-1 at home to Ruthin, for whom Stuart Vernon scored the winner. Llandudno came out on top at Buckley with a 48th-minute Dylan Smith goal, while new boys Rhos Aelwyd celebrated their promotion by beating last season's high fliers Flint Town United 2-1. Another of the newly promoted sides, Rhydymwyn, drew 1-1 at home to Guilsfield, but Rhayader Town were well-beaten 4-1 at Penrhyncoch on Friday night, with Josh Shaw grabbing a brace.
