Rhyl win marred by sickening injury
Saturday 28 August 2010
Alec WilliamsCONNAH'S Quay and Rhyl continue to maintain a hot pace at the top of the Huws Gray Alliance, both recording home wins on Friday night.
The Nomads beat Flint Town United 4-2 in the Flintshire derby, while the Lillies overcame Llandudno 2-0 in front of a crowd of 449 at Belle Vue, where the game was marred by an early injury to Alec Williams, who played with Prestatyn last season, after an accidental clash of heads with Joe Morgan.
Williams suffered a quadruple fracture of the cheekbone and was taken to hospital.
Something had to give at Belle Vue, where both sides had 100% records going into the game, and it took Rhyl 72 minutes to break the deadlock when John Toner bundled the ball into the net following a goal-mouth scramble before sub Mike Pritchard added the second.
On Deeside, a crowd of 309 watched Gap take a 10th-minute lead only for rivals Flint to respond twice in three minutes with goals from ex-Nomad Jon Kenworthy and Simon Thelwell.
But Quay were back in front before the break through Ben Collins and Andy Olson, with Gary O'Toole adding a fourth early in the second-half.
