CEFN Druids got the Welsh Cup's first round underway at The Rock on Friday night, but were forced to toil before overcoming local Welsh National League outfit Penycae 6-4 in extra-time. Chris Melia and new signing Richard Williams-Cooke gave the Ancients a two-goal cushion by the half-hour mark, but Ian Andrews hit back for the visitors. Arran Pritchard restored the advantage on the stroke of half-time, but a brace from Kieron Duckett either side of a George Hughes goal for the hosts kept the visitors' hopes alive. Andrews notched his second goal of the night in the 89th-minute to force an extra 30 minutes, but Andrew Swarbrick settled home nerves in the 101st-minute before Mark Harris sealed a second round spot four minutes from the final whistle with a penalty. |
