| Hat-tricks galore in Welsh Cup |
| Saturday 11 September 2010 |
THERE were hat-tricks galore in the first round of the Welsh Cup, with Shaun Beck claiming four as Flint Town won 5-1 at Llandyrnog. Rhyl strolled past Llanrhaeadr 5-0 with Stuart Rudd notching a threesome, while their co-leaders at the top of the Cymru Alliance, Gap Connah's Quay, routed Pwllheli 6-1 down on the Lleyn Peninsula, Gary O' Toole grabbing a hat-trick. But former Welsh Premier outfit Welshpool were thumped 4-0 at Holyhead Hotspur, for whom Barry Hughes also scored three. Ex-Airbus frontman James McIntosh was another striker who got on the scoresheet three times as Buckley Town won 4-1 at fellow Alliance outfit Rhydymwyn. Former Druids Waynne Phillips, with a brace, and Jon Rush were among the scorers as Rhos Aelwyd thumped Borras Park Albion 8-0 away. The only shock came at Llanidloes Town, who beat higher league opponents Ruthin Town 1-0, while the Anglesey derby went the way of Llangefni, who beat neighbours Llanfairpwll 3-2 thanks to goals from Darren Gowans, Lee Craven and Darren Thomas. Caersws needed extra-time to see off the challenge of Rhayader, with goals from Dylan McPhee, Scott Williams, Mark Griffiths and a Geraint Lewis penalty.
