CONNAH'S Quay opened-up a two-point gap at the top of the Huws Gray Alliance with a 2-1 Friday night win over Llandudno with goals from Rob Jones and Mike Hayes. After a goalless first half, Llandudno's Tony Cann was red-carded for fouling Chris Herbert as he raced through on goal and Jones despatched the free kick. Dylan Smith glanced home a free-kick to equalise but, after the home side had Craig Jones dismissed for a reckless challenge, Hayes netted the winner despite the visitors appealing for offside. Relegated to second place, Cefn Druids - who hammered the Nomads 5-1 last weekend - stumbled on their travels with a 1-0 defeat at Flint Cae-y-Castell with Sean Beck scoring for the hosts. The Ancients played with 10-men for most of the game following the 20th-minute dismissal of Max Peate. Caersws also had Hugh Clarke red-carded but are in third place with goals from Graham Evans and Mark Griffiths in a 2-0 victory at Guilsfield, while Rhyl hit five again - this time at Rhos Aelwyd - as their former midfielder Steve Walters returned to the managerial role for the hosts. Brad Maylett scored twice, with the other goals coming from Scott Beckett, Russell Courtney and Paul Mooney in front of a crowd of 276. Welshpool failed to climb any closer to the positive points mark, but gave a spirited performance in a nine-goal thriller at Maesydre. A hat-trick from Marcus Orlik ensured Porthmadog claimed the spoils in a 5-4 success, with ex-Welshpool frontman Paul Roberts scoring the other two. Llangefni hit form with a bang in a 6-0 trouncing of Rhydymwyn, Darren Thomas the hero with four of the goals, including one from the spot. Penrhyncoch claimed a top six spot with a 3-2 win at Buckley Town's Globe Way where veteran Gari Lewis scored twice, while next-bottom Rhayader claimed a rare win, 4-0 at home to fellow strugglers Ruthin Town.
