| Rhyl rule out promotion bid this season |

RHYL have ruled themselves out of a quick return to the Welsh Premier after revealing more financial problems will prevent them obtaining the FAW's domestic licence. Cash problems cost the Belle Vue outfit a place in the top flight this season after their most successful spell in the modern era, which included two Welsh Premier title wins in six years as well as Welsh Cup and League Cup successes. A successful start to life in the Huws Gray Alliance raised hopes of immediate promotion, but a meeting in the town on Thursday night was told that an outstanding tax bill would prevent the club from meeting licensing criteria this year. Saturday sees the Lilywhites take on old rivals The New Saints in a fourth round Welsh Cup tie at Grange Road, but the visitors won't face their former midfielder John Leah, who was transferred to Airbus UK Broughton in midweek as the financial difficulties start to impact on the club's playing squad for the second season running. The Saints have Danny Holmes suspended but former Rhyl stars Chris Sharp and Matty Williams are expected to feature against their former club. Rhyl's near-neighbours Prestatyn head for Rhos Aelwyd where Ponciau Park could prove a great leveller for Steve Walters' side, who have done well in their first season back in the Huws Gray Alliance. Bala Town face minnows UWIC at Cardiff's Cyncoed Campus seeking to emulate last season's achievement of reaching the semi-finals and cup progress would be a welcome bonus for Lakesiders' boss Colin Caton after a disappointing first half of the league season.
