| U-turn as manager quits Welshpool |
| Wednesday 01 June 2011 |
WELSHPOOL have been thrown into turmoil once again after manager Chris Herbert performed a dramatic U-turn and quit the club. The Lilywhites had received assurances that the former Connah's Quay striker would take charge of the team in the Mid Wales League next season. But they will now be looking for their fifth manager in 12 months after he decided to quit and issued the following statement through mywelshpool this afternoon: "I have decided to leave Welshpool FC. The club is going through turbulent times and has got no money or potential sponsors coming in to the club at present. "With this being the case I would find it extremely hard to attract new players to come and play for nothing. "So I had a chat with Liam Pritchard (retiring club secretary) and decided it best that I leave Welshpool immediately and try and find a manager’s job elsewhere. "I am gutted that it has come to this as I had already done the ground work and had a really good squad of players coming in. "But, as I said before, these players need money to come to Welshpool. I had a lot of lads from the local area included in my plans and we would have more than likely bounced straight back to the Alliance. "I had a few offers from Alliance clubs that I turned down which, now looking at it, I shouldn’t have. But the situation is what it is and you just have to get on with it. I just hope that I can get straight back in to management ASAP. I don’t want to just go off the radar as I feel I have a lot to offer." |
