BALA Town lead the race for promotion to the Welsh Premier, after opening-up a seven-point lead at the top of the Cymru Alliance with a 3-1 win at bottom club Llandyrnog United.Gary Penlington netted after just seven minutes, but had to wait until late in the game to secure the spoils through Owain Roberts and Gethin Lloyd. With second-placed Llangefni Town out of action, Llandudno closed the gap with a 6-1 demolition of struggling Glantraeth, Danny Hughes leading the way with a hat-trick. Holyhead suffered a hiccup in their promotion bid with a 1-0 defeat at lowly Gresford Athletic, Mike Pugh scoring the goal after five minutes. Ruthin Town took advantage to secure third spot with a 1-1 draw at Llanfairpwll, but had to wait until deep into added time for a Lennox Beddows equaliser.
