MID Wales League Division One side Llansantffraid Village have accused local rivals Guilsfield of tapping up their star signing Ian Edmonds. But Guils' manager Russell Cadwallader (pictured) says he has been talking to the 18 year-old since early July when he became a free agent after being released from Shrewsbury Town. The Saints say they will report the Huws Gray Alliance outfit to the Football Association of Wales after learning that a phone conversation took place on Sunday between the player and Cadwallader, just days after he was signed to a 12-month contract. But Cadwallader claimed that he was unaware that Edmonds had signed after opening negotiations with the left back a month ago, and was even expecting him to turn up to training at Guilsfield on Monday night. "When he didn’t show last night I asked our secretary to make some enquiries and found out he had signed for Llansantffraid so I wish him all the best," said Cadwallader. "Yes, I spoke to him Sunday but at no point did he tell me that he was signed. I had been talking to him for a few weeks so don’t feel we have done anything wrong. As soon as I realised he had signed for Llansantffraid, Guilsfield’s interest ended." Meanwhile, veteran marksman Danny Barton, has joined Guilsfield from Ellesmere Rangers. A prolific goal scorer around the Welsh Premier with Oswestry, Welshpool, TNS, Rhyl, Caernarfon, Newtown and Aberystwyth, Barton hit 127 goals from 244 (+24) Welsh Premier appearances. |
