 FOUR Huws Gray Alliance clubs were stunned by lower league opposition in the first round of the FAW Welsh Cup.Ruthin Town crashed out 4-1 at Barmouth & Dyffryn United while Penycae lost at home in the local derby, 2-0 to FC Cefn. Llangefni held visiting Denbigh Town in normal time but lost at home 3-2 after an extra 30 minutes, while Llanrhaeadr were sunk 6-1 at home by Holyhead Hotspur. Gary O'Toole claimed a personal haul of four in a 7-2 rout for Gap Connah's Quay against Gwalchmai, who were not helped by the first-half dismissal of keeper Kenny Hughes. Buckley Town won the all-Alliance clash with Penrhyncoch 4-0 with Tim Bigland grabbing a brace, but it took a penalty shoot-out to send Caersws into round two at the expense of Conwy United after a 1-1 extra-time stalemate. Tony Cann fired a hat-trick as Cefn Druids beat Caernarfon Town 6-1 and Flint Town United progressed after a 5-1 success against Chirk AAA, with all five goals scored by different players. Porthmadog overcame Bethesda despite trailing at the break to record a 3-1 win, Guilsfield's Will Thomas scored the only goal of the game at Rhos Aelwyd and Rhyl scored five second half goals see see off Gresford Athletic's resistance, Jason Oswell scoring three. Llandudno won 3-1 away at Venture Community. |
