BALA Town coach Steve Crompton has been appointed to take over from Adie Jones as the manager of his local side Ruthin Town. The Huws Gray Alliance outfit accepted the resignation of boss Adie Jones at the weekend and have moved swiftly to fill the vacant post. Crompton joined the Lakesiders some seven years ago and was involved during their time in the Cymru Alliance as assistant to manager Colin Caton, when the club achieved promotion to the Welsh Premier League as champions in 2009. He left the club earlier this season. A winger with Hereford United, Crompton was signed by Worcester City for a then club-record fee of £4,000 and went on to score 64 goals from 287 first-team appearances, twice being voted player of the year by supporters in 1981 and 1985 while the club was playing in the Gola League (Football Conference). After falling out of favour with manager George Armstrong, he was loaned to Runcorn before making a permanent move to Canal Street and later playing for Bangor City, where he spent a couple of seasons before being forced to retire through injury. "Steve knows the club well and was a Youth Team coach for five years before joining Bala seven years ago where he has developed his coaching skills with a 'B' licence," says Ruthin chairman Brian Griffiths. |
