| Rhyl loanee impresses Crewe boss Davis |
| Tuesday 06 December 2011 |
ROOKIE Crewe striker Jason Oswell is being monitored by boss Steve Davis after blazing a goal trail across the border. The 19-year-old has scored 15 goals in 17 appearances with Huws Gray Alliance leaders Rhyl. The teenager's latest effort proved to be a dramatic extra-time winner as the Lilywhites surprised Newtown 2-1 in the Welsh Cup last weekend. Homegrown Oswell, who stands at 6ft tall, fits the bill as the target man Davis is still seeking after being handed the managerial reins at Gresty Road. But he has yet to make a senior appearance for the Railwaymen, and his rich vein of goals have been tapped only in the second tier of Welsh football. However, he is continuing to play reserve-team games during his Rhyl loan, and Davis told the Crewe Chronicle: "Last week's reserve game against Shrewsbury was the first time I'd had a chance to see Jason since he went to Rhyl and I was impressed." Oswell was one of 12 former academy players handed one-year deals by Crewe last summer. He won the player-of-the-month award in the Huws Gray Alliance Welsh League last month and will stay at Rhyl until January. |
