Mooney strike sends Rhyl four points clear
Wednesday 07 December 2011
Paul MooneyPAUL Mooney's excellent strike nine minutes from time settled the top of the table clash in the Huws Gray Alliance between Rhyl and Gap Connah's Quay at Belle Vue on Tuesday night.
The Nomads edged a dour first half in which the Lilywhites suffered a hangover from Saturday's cup win at Newtown and failed to raise a shot on target.
But the hosts looked livelier after the break and, after hitting the woodwork three times, Mooney sent his side four points clear at the top over their Deeside rivals.
In the night's other game, Llandudno's good run of form continued with a 4-2 home win over Conwy United, who are in freefall after leading the table in early season.
Kevin Fields, Daniel Hughes, Tim Brandreth and Dean Seager were on target for the hosts, with the Musselmen responding through Ricky Jones and Chris Quinn.
