Conwy's new chairman looks to the future
Friday 16 December 2011
ConwyCONWY United's new chairman Geoff Cartwright has spoken about his appointment and initial plans for the club's future.
Cartwright, who was appointed on Monday by the club's management committee, was previously chairman of neighbours Colwyn Bay and oversaw their rise to the Blue Square North Conference with two successive promotions during a highly successful four year spell at the club.
"I am delighted that Conwy United's committee have appointed me, the club has a great history which has included experiencing some difficult times and the current committee have worked hard to keep the club alive," Cartwright said.
"However, the club needs to move forward to realise its potential and I have the experience and expertise to bring on board in order to do that.
"There will no doubt be a number of changes to how things are done but this will be for the right reasons and we need everybody on-board, pulling in the same direction for the club to progress.
"Our aim is to develop the club in all areas and eventually establish it as a Welsh Premier League contender, but there is a lot of hard work ahead.
"There will be no personal injection of cash into the club, it will pay its own way and there will be no build up of debt as has happened at the club in the past.
"After a run of poor results our first mission is to ensure that the club retains its status in the Huws Gray Alliance league for next season.
"The current squad will have the opportunity to prove that they are good enough to do it and start getting the results we need,if not we will have to bring in players who can," he added.
The Musselmen are hopeful of appointing a new manager shortly and the position has been advertised.
