A RARE Boxing Day fixture in the Huws Gray Alliance should draw a bumper crowd to Cae Y Castell as Flint Town United welcome local rivals Gap Connah’s Quay (12 noon). And the Nomads will be bidding to extract revenge for their only home defeat of the season after crashing 3-0 to the Silkmen at the Deeside Stadium back in August. "Since then things have moved on and the big incentive for us now is knowing that a win would take us back to the top of the table," says Quay player-boss Mark McGregor. Gap currently trail pacemakers Rhyl by two points and a win would see them top the table into the New Year. "That’s got to be a big spur and after two weeks of hard training our lads are really in fine shape," McGregor added. "I’m hoping this high fitness level we’ve attained will help give us the edge and enable us to put in the kind of performance that will deliver the vital points. "There’s always an extra desire to do well in a derby game with so much local pride at stake and I know all our lads want to be involved to make sure we give a really good account of ourselves." Nomads welcome back defender Ben Alston who was missing last weekend with a personal commitment. |
