BALA Town are almost home and dry in the race for the Cymru Alliance title and a coveted place in the Welsh Premier. They beat Ruthin Town 5-0 on Friday night, while main challengers Llangefni Town were losing the Anglesey derby 2-1 at home to neighbours Glantraeth. The Lakesiders opened-up a 13 point lead at the top, taking a three-nil interval lead through Richard Williams-Cooke, Huw Price and Gethin Lloyd (pictured). The former Welshpool defender added another after the break, with Tommy Mutton completing the nap hand on 86 minutes. A Kevin Roberts double, one from the spot, gave Glan their win at Talwrn Road, but Cefni missed the chance to equalise with another penalty after Kevin Roberts had succeeded from the spot in the first-half. Holyhead Hotspur came from behind to beat 10-man Llandudno 2-1 with a Kenleigh Owen goal, while Stuart Hayes grabbed a hat-trick for Mold Alex in a 4-2 win at Flint's Cae-y-Castell. The Alliance will make history with its first-ever Sunday game between Mynydd Isa and Guilsfield. |
