Hotspur ruin Bala promotion party
Saturday 25 April 2009
BALA Town were forced to postpone their promotion party after going down 4-1 in the Cymru Alliance title showdown at home to Holyhead Hotspur.
After having a goal ruled-out for offside, the visitors took the lead through Mike Kelly on 17 minutes, but Gary Penlington grabbed an equaliser for the hosts via the underside of the crossbar on the stroke of half-time.
The second-half was all Hotspur in front of a crowd of 512 at Maes Tegid. Kenleigh Owen put the visitors in front again six minutes after the break, Lee Webber added the third at the far post from an Owen free-kick and Curt Williams ensured there was no way back with a 77th-minute effort.
Bala now need a win from their remaining league game at Lex on Wednesday night to deny Holyhead a chance of the title.
