Nomads reach NW Coast cup final
Tuesday 28 April 2009
GAP Connah's Quay moved into the final of the North Wales Coast FA Cup with a 3-0 win over Holyhead at Llandudno on Tuesday night.
With nine consecutive league victories behind them in the Cymru Alliance, Hotspur were expected to give Nomads a far tougher test than they did.
In truth, the Anglesey outfit rarely threatened the Quay who had several good chances to score before Michael Cronshaw eventually fired home from an angle in the 24th minute.
Once that goal had gone in, Connah's Quay were rarely troubled and skipper Liam Loughlin bagged a second goal on the half-hour.
Still Connah's Quay piled forward over-running the Holyhead defence whose tough tackling was comfortably matched by the Welsh Premier side.
On 38 minutes Peter Doran was upended in the penalty box and his identical twin brother Phil struck a controlled left-footed penalty kick into the bottom corner as Holyhead 'keeper Mike Doutch dived the other way.
Connah's Quay will now meet either Llandudno or Glan Conwy in the final at Flint on Saturday May 16 as they bid to win the cup for only the second time.
