Shoot-out joy for Lawmen
Wednesday 13 May 2009
NEWFA CupLEX XI made it fifth time lucky at The Racecourse by lifting the NEWFA Cup in a penalty shoot-out drama with Mynydd Isa.
The Lawmen had been beaten on their last four outings at the home of Wrexham, but got the perfect start when former Airbus keeper Stuart McIntosh failed to deal with a Simon Smith corner, allowing Nathan Evans to head back across the box for Craig Hughes to net from close range.
Another ex-Wingmaker, Paul Connolly, soon levelled with a header from a Sam Pugh corner and Isa grabbed the initiative when another former Airman, Neil Wynne, netted with a low drive.
Ten minutes into the second half, LEX levelled when a poor clearance from McIntosh found Mike Santanjeli who made no mistake from 12 yards.
Aaron Aby, Gareth Rhys Roberts, Mike Latham and Aaron Edwards were successful in the shoot-out.
