ALREADY promoted to the Welsh Premier as Cymru Alliance champions, Bala Town sealed the double by lifting the League Cup.They beat Holyhead Hotspur 2-0 after extra-time in the final, leaving the Anglesey outfit as the runners-up in both competitions. After a poor first 90 minutes in which neither side came to terms with a blustery wind at Llandudno's Maesdu Park, Gary Penlington gave Bala the lead early in the first period of extra-time, when converting at the far post from a left-wing cross. And a Huw Price penalty minutes later ensured there was no way back for Hotspur. Gap Connah's Quay failed to end the season with silverware as they were beaten 1-0 by Llandudno in the final of the North Wales Coast challenge cup. Former Porthmadog midfielder Danny Hughes scored Tudno's goal, while Nomads had striker Aden Shannon red-carded in the second-half. Photo: Holyhead defend a first-half Bala attack. |
