CYMRU Alliance high-flyers Llangefni and Penryhncoch both reached the second round of the Welsh Cup.Cefni were easy 6-1 winners at Brymbo, but Penrhyn were twice forced to come from behind before beating lowly Amlwch Town 3-2, former Aberystwyth stalwart Gari Lewis firing a 25-yard winner. Two other sides were beaten by clubs from lower down the pyramid, Buckley Town crashing 3-2 at Barmouth & Duffryn United. Denbigh Town lost 2-1 at Glan Conwy while Holyhead Hotspur needed extra-time to win at Overton Rec. The hosts took the lead before Kenleigh Owen missed a penalty for Hotspur, Steve Matthews and Mel McGinness grabbing the goals. Lex XI mounted a stirring comeback from 1-3 down to beat Dolgellau Athletic 5-3. David Edwards netted a hat-trick for the Amateurs, but goals from Kevin Roberts, Joe Garner, Scott Roberts, Tim Nunnerley and Shaun Dodd saw the Lawmen gain the verdict. Barry Town's hopes of a cup run were dashed in a thumping 5-1 home reverse at the hands of Ely Rangers while Bettws fell 2-0 at lower league Caerau Ely. Welsh League first division Dinas Powys went out 2-1 after extra-time at Spar Mid Wales League outfit Hay St Marys. West End and Taffs Well shared a 12-goal thriller before the visitors emerged victorious 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out. The draw for the second round is on Monday (Sgorio, 10pm).
