Lovering reveals Barry's Super 12 bid
Sunday 30 August 2009
Stuart LoveringBARRY Town chairman Stuart Lovering has revealed that the seven-times Welsh Premier champions are bidding for a place in the new "Super 12".
The Dragons submitted the forms with the required cheque last Thursday and are hopeful of completing a rise from the ashes after being forced into administration in 2003 with almost £1 million of debt.
Under manager Gavin Chesterfield, they have bounced back from the second tier of the Welsh League to finish third in the First Division last season.
Meanwhile, Lovering has reacted angrily to a report in the South Wales Echo, that he has rejected a bid at the full asking price of £195,000 to take control of the Dragons.
"The truth is that a party had asked me to hand compete control of Barry Town to him and said he would pay me £175,000 over six years in equal monthly instalments.
"However, he said that if he missed three consecutive payments I would have to buy the club back from him for £1 whatever state he left it in and he would owe nothing more.
"He thus made no commitment to compete a purchase and was unable to offer any security.
"He revealed he would pay me not from his other businesses' profits but from the profits of Barry Town, thus depriving the football team of funds for six years," adds Lovering.
• Former Welsh Premier outfit Afan Lido have also applied for promotion at the end of this season.
