FORMER Welsh Under-21 international and Liverpool midfielder Layton Maxwell has signed for Welsh League outfit Maesteg Park.Maxwell, who played once and scored for Liverpool in a Carling Cup tie against Hull City, went on loan to Stockport County and then signed for Cardiff City in July 2001, where he made 38 appearances, also playing for Swansea City and Mansfield Town. The 30-year-old appeared briefly in the Welsh Premier with Barry Town in 2003/4, before a short spell with Rhyl in 2004/5 and a move to Newport County. After a brief and unsuccessful spell with Carmarthen Town, he joined Bangor City at the start of the 2005/6 season, moving to Caernarfon the following summer and completing a total of 83 Welsh Premier appearances which yielded 16 goals. After two seasons at The Oval, Maxwell signed for Aberaman Athletic and was a member of the squad that won the Welsh League Division One title last season. |
