| Fire causes havoc for Afan Lido |
| Tuesday 05 January 2010 |
WEATHER permitting, holders Afan Lido will play their Nathaniel Car Sales Cup quarter-final with second division side AFC Llwydcoed at Port Talbot's GenQuip stadium tonight (7.30pm).Due to the pre-Christmas fire at the Afan Lido leisure complex, the Steelmen have offered near neighbours Lido the use of their ground. Last month's devastating blaze has created havoc for the football club - their ground is immediately adjacent to the sports centre which supplied the club's water and power before the fire. Now the club are having to make alternative arrangements that could include switching venues for some time to come. "We are looking to see whether we can use a tap behind one of the stands as an alternative water supply," says club secretary Peter Reynolds. "As far as electricity is concerned, we brought a generator in over Christmas but it wasn't powerful enough so now we are looking to bring a bigger one in. "Port Talbot have offered their pitch, depending on their requirements. But we won't be able to play there for the rest of the season so we will need to get something in place." Lido have also been offered the use of Glenhafod Park by neighbouring Welsh League outfit Goytre United. |
