CROESYCEILIOG pulled-off a giant-killing act by beating hot-favourites Barry Town at Taffs Well to reach the final of the Nathaniel League Cup. The Cwmbran-based side must now bridge a divisional gap when they face the winners of the all-Port Talbot semi-final between holders Afan Lido and Goytre United, which will now be played at Maesteg Park on Tuesday April 6. Headed goals from skipper Calum Miles and Paul Brown earned underdogs Croesy their victory over the Dragons, who had equalised through former Cwmbran Town striker Sam Small. Both sides could have scored more goals, particularly Barry who struck the crossbar twice, but Croesyceiliog hung on to continue their bid to become the first local club to win the trophy since Llanwern in 2001/2. Much credit goes to Croesy and former Aberaman manager Gareth Morgan, although his side paid a big price with central defender Huw Williams taken to hospital, where it was confirmed he had suffered a double leg fracture. |
