GOYTRE United reclaimed leadership of Welsh League Division One from Afan Lido, but were unconvincing in a 1-1 home draw against Cambrian & Clydach at Glenhafod Park. Goytre’s one-point return against Cambrian means they have won just once in seven league games - Michael Jones shot the visitors into a 30th-minute lead and it wasn’t until eight minutes from time that an unstoppable volley from Michael Chaves secured the hosts a draw. Caldicot Town’s Division One title hopes took another knock on Wednesday night when they drew for the fourth successive game - this time 1-1 against visiting Barry Town. Top scorer Gareth Cullimore’s 26th goal of the campaign gave Caldicot a 1-0 interval lead at Jubilee Way before a second-half equaliser by Nickie Jones earned the seaside outfit a share of the spoils. Caldicot now face a crunch visit to face second-placed Afan Lido on Saturday when anything less than a win will almost certainly end the Gwent side's championship challenge. |
