AFAN Lido can strike a major blow in their quest to win the MacWhirter League at home to Caldicot Town. Lido are second in Division One, a point behind leaders Goytre United with a game in hand, but third-placed Caldicot will provide formidable opposition. The two sides meet again at Jubilee Way on May 15, but Lido’s promotion chase depends on a successful appeal after the FAW refused their application for a domestic licence. Lido went top this week after their 3-1 win at Pontardawe Town. Mark Jones, Nathan White and Robbie Walters swept Lido into a three-goal lead before Pontardawe grabbed a consolation goal. That took them top, albeit on goal difference, for the first time since they were relegated from the Welsh Premier League in the 2004-05 season. Goytre regained first place the following day with a 1-1 draw against Cambrian and Clydach at Glenhafod Stadium - their 11th draw of the season - and visit Ely Rangers on Saturday. |
