AFAN Lido went top of Welsh League Division One on goal difference despite being held to a 1-1 draw at lowly Bettws. Lee Greenhall gave the Bridgend side a seventh-minute lead with Lido top scorer Nathan White equalising in the 55th minute with a 29th goal of the campaign. Second-placed Goytre United are in action on Wednesday night at Bryntirion. Two sides battling to remain in the top flight - Garden Village and Pontardawe Town - picked up key victories. Village beat Barry Town 2-1 at Stafford Common to wrap up a double over the Dragons with Daniel Lancey shooting the hosts into an early lead and Lee Rastatter making it 2-0 at the break. And although Barry responded through Nicky Jones in the 55th minute, Village clung on. Pontardawe Town came from a goal down to card a 2-1 victory over Bridgend Town at the Brewery Field. Though Paul Jones nudged the Brewery boys in front, Mark Nappieralla equalised while a last-gasp Dale Otten penalty - after Carl Owen was felled in the box - gave Ponty the points. This wrapped up a quickfire double for Ponty over Bridgend, having taken last week’s Recreation Ground clash, 2-0. |
