Hartson still hopes to lead Barry revival
Tuesday 04 May 2010
John Hartson JOHN Hartson is still hoping to become Barry Town’s director of football.
The former Wales striker admits he hasn’t heard from Barry for some time but says he is awaiting further talks, according to the South Wales Echo.
Businessman Clayton Jones is working to become Barry’s new owner and the legalities are almost complete.
Jones wants Hartson, who has earned all the UEFA coaching qualifications, to work alongside manager Gavin Chesterfield.
“If the right management job comes along I would certainly consider it,” said Hartson.
“I had early discussions with Barry but it has gone a bit flat.
“We had general discussions and they went well and we shook hands on getting together again. I am waiting to hear.
“A big factor is that my health has improved 100%.
“If anybody was worried about that side of things there is no need.
“I am fine and ready to work hard in the right job.”
Barry have completed their MacWhirter Welsh League fixtures and Chesterfield is already planning for the new season at Jenner Park.
Hartson - who won 51 caps for Wales - is viewed as the ideal man to help lead Barry back to the top flight of Welsh domestic football.
“We believe Gavin and John can work together,” said Jones.
“Our hope is that John would be director of football and work well alongside Gavin.”
