THE race for the Welsh League title took another twist as West End gained an exciting 4-3 victory at leaders Goytre United. Having inflicted a 2-1 defeat in midweek on another title-chasing club, Afan Lido, the West Enders continued to influence the battle for honours and have another chance to play a major role when Goytre visit Pryderi Park on Saturday. Chris Hole turned from villain to hero after his own goal gave United the lead, as he then scored twice at the right end of the field. Kieran Cullen gave the Swansea side a 3-1 lead early in the second half with Richard Ryan pulling a goal back. Alex Chrysanthou made it 4-2 on 75 minutes while Ryan got his 200th Goytre goal from the penalty spot in a tense finish. Promotion-chasing Lido gained a 1-1 draw at third-placed Cambrian & Clydach to move within three points of the lead. The deadlock was broken by Lido's top scorer Nathan White after 80 minutes, but the Rhondda outfit responded immediately with a Chris Ingram goal. |
