GWENT club Fleur de Lys sprang a shock in the Welsh Cup first-round, beating Welsh League second division outfit Ely Rangers 1-0 with a goal from Gavin Meacham.Corus Steel dumped first division outfit Cardiff Corries 5-2, while third division Pontypridd Town were 2-0 victors at home to Pontardawe Town. Elsewhere, games went pretty much to form, but Bridgend Town needed extra-time before beating Monmouth Town 5-3. Afan Lido won 3-1 away to Caerau thanks to goals from Ceri Morgan, Jack Jenkins and Gavin Jones, while Barry Town continued their unbeaten start to the campaign with a 3-0 home win against Cardiff Combination minnows STM Sports at Jenner Park.
