GOYTRE United gained an excellent 3-0 win over Bridgend Town at the Brewery Field on Wednesday night to go sixth in MacWhirter Welsh League division one.The defeat was a blow to the Brewerymen's promotion ambitions and left them five points adrift of the top two, although they have a game in hand over second-placed Afan Lido. Jacob Daly fired Goytre ahead with Robbie Walters (pictured) making it 2-0 at the break, and the Port Talbot side sealed their sixth league win of the campaign with a Jason Thorne penalty. Leaders Bryntirion Athletic opened up a 10-point gap on nearest challengers Lido with a 4-1 Tuesday night home win over lowly Penrhiwceiber Rangers. Sam George put the Cynon Valley outfit in front, but a brace from Jonathan Cuss along with strikes from Anthony Rawlings and captain Paul Evans swept Bryntirion to victory. Lido are back in action on Friday night with a home fixture against Taffs Well, who beat Caldicot Town 3-0 in midweek. |
