IN one of only two Welsh League matches to beat the freeze, Barry Town hit the top of the table with a Friday night 3-0 win at Afan Lido. But, although unbeaten in 10 games, the seven-times Welsh Premier champions have not applied for promotion. Once Barry took the lead - Zak Misbah pouncing on an error by Afan Lido goalkeeper Rory McCreesh, failing to gather a throw-in from Shaun Morgan in the 31st minute - they never looked back and could easily have doubled their final tally. Afan Lido, with Mark Robinson now in temporary charge following the surprise departure of managerial duo Craig Duggan and Dai Rees, displayed plenty of spirit and no shortage of skill but were always second best in the Barry penalty area where Kurt Bettles was a commanding figure. Any hopes Afan Lido nurtured of getting back into the game were quickly extinguished when Michael Parkins cracked home a 49th-minute free-kick and in the 68th minute Nicky Jones wrapped up Barry's win when he punished another defensive clanger. Officials have agreed to extend the season for an extra two weeks up to and including Sunday May 24.
