McCoubrey spurs Lido to vital win
Sunday 24 April 2011
Scott McCoubreyAFAN Lido strengthened their promotion bid, consolidating second position with a 3-1 Friday night win over relegated Penrhiwceiber Rangers.
Unbeaten in 10, the hosts are now six points behind leaders Bryntirion Athletic and have two games in hand.
Lido took an 18th-minute lead with a long-range shot from Gavin Jones and either side of the goal Penrhiwceiber goalkeeper Ryan Betteney made two excellent one-handed saves from Scott McCoubrey (pictured), nudging the first on to a post.
The visitors equalised with a stunning shot from defender Dean Brown, but Lido restored the lead after 56 minutes through Sam Small and the influential McCoubrey added a third.
But things turned sour for the hosts in the final minute when substitute Remi Whitelock, on the pitch for a minute, was sent off for an alleged head butt on Jason Hatch.
Cambrian & Clydach defeated Caldicot 1-0 to keep their top two hopes alive, a second half strike from Mike Jones sealing the win.
But Bridgend's disappointing season continued with a 2-1 reverse at Goytre United, who took the lead through Robbie Walters. Richard Ryan levelled for the Brewerymen, but Ryan Shugar netted the winner 10 minutes from time.
