BARRY Town supporters have launched a campaign to save the club after owner Stuart Lovering threatened to quit the Welsh League unless a buyer comes forward.A statement from Lovering says: "Barry Town AFC Ltd is being offered for sale at a reduced price in order for the first team to continue playing in the Welsh League. "The club is being offered at £125k down payment with further instalments of £2k per month for three years. "If no buyer is found the club will continue to operate children and youth teams, as well as adult teams – but at a lower league level. "The costs of the team and playing at Jenner Park have been paid for by the current chairman since he also saved the club seven years ago – but he can no longer subsidise the first team. "The club’s last certified accounts for 2009 recorded a basic profit of £15k but before football costs of £6k (one off of £10k) and wages expenses, the profit was about £60k. "The club might therefore appeal to a couple of guys or a family who would like to own and run their own bar and football club with scope for greater income from starting food sales in the 400-capacity huge clubhouse that overlooks the stadium on the first floor. "Alternatively, one or more businesspeople may be interested in running the club as a self-funding enterprise to enjoy the football side of the business." Lovering has attempted to sell the club on several previous occasions but fans fear this is the last throw of the dice and, unless a buyer can found within six weeks, the Dragons will quit the Welsh League.
