| AGM to decide on streamlined Welsh League |

THE final make-up of a streamlined MacWhirter Welsh League will be the main source of interest in tomorrow's AGM at Corus Steel Football Club, says the South Wales Evening Post. The league has been forced to shed two more clubs - Cwmamman United and South Gower - in order to comply with Welsh FA instructions to operate with just 48 teams. But the future of Barry Town could lead to an 11th-hour reprieve for Cwmamman, who finished 15th in division three last term. Since chairman Stuart Lovering put the Dragons up for sale back in the spring, doubt has been cast on their future as a Welsh League club. And with no buyer coming forward, it remains to be seen whether Lovering carries out a threat for them to operate at parks level. Should this be the case, then Cwmamman would avoid relegation to the Neath & District League. Gwent County League champions Undy and South Wales Senior League winners Bridgend Street are set to be promoted, replacing Porthcawl Town Athletic and Cwmbran Town. South Wales Amateur League champions Kenfig Hill are still awaiting the outcome of a Welsh FA appeal, regarding a failure to meet league criteria by the closing date. But with Bridgend Street now the lone nomination from the South Wales FA, the Cardiff side are likely to welcomed. Hopefully, a second summer of discontent surrounding criteria will be avoided, and a prompt start to the season will be made in August. |
